FAQMy cat has never been in a cattery before and I'm unsure how he will mix. Cats are territorial by nature and some will fight at home to protect what they consider their territory. The cattery is a sort of 'neutral' territory and the cats generally mix really well and when people come to view, they often comment how relaxed the cats look. There are however, some cats that should always go into separate accommodation: 1) a cat that is known to be nasty either with people or other cats, we need to able to handle them. 2) a very nervous cat that takes off or hides when you get visitors, rarely goes outside and has had no contact with other cats at all. Most like this do eventually settle, but it takes them longer and perhaps separate accommodation might be a kinder option. 3)a very young cat (< 5 mths), a very old cat (see geriatric) and a medically unfit cat.
How long will my cat stay in his quarters when admitted. If your cat is booked in the main cattery we will have his sleeping quarters all ready for him. There will be a cosy bed inside his actual sleeping cubby, a litter tray and a bowl of fresh water. Generally a cat is a little apprehensive when they first arrive or may even be a little car sick. It is important that he has time to relax, possibly use the litter tray and establish this box as his. They learn very quickly which is their quarters and often choose to return there during the day to sleep or use their litter tray. Once he is settled we open the door and,if he is ready to mix, we watch how he interacts with the other cats. If there is cause for concern he will be returned to his quarters and tried again later. We do not allow a cat to mix in the cattery if it shows antisocial behaviour that may put other cats at risk. If a cat just does not settle and does not like to mix, we endeavour to put it on its own. What do we need to bring ? If this is the first time your cat has been here, we should have given/posted an admittance form to fill in.On admittance day you will need to present this form with the cats vaccination card. The card must show the last 2 vaccinations. All food and bedding is provided but if your cat is on a prescribed veterinary diet, please bring enough of this with you for the stay. (It will be labeled and only fed to your cat, leftovers returned to you)
